December 8, 2004

Approved 1/19/05

Meeting began a t 7:00 at the Town Hall

In attendance: Lili Spinosa, Kathy Cook, Nancy Roffman, Dan Provost, Lorraine Petzy, Mary Jane Solomon

Guests: Mike Motherway

Lili reported on the programs at K.E.S. Middle and high school boys have begun playing basketball on Mondays. Grades 1 & 2 and 3 – 5 play basketball on Tuesdays. Men’s basketball on Wednesdays. Women’s tone and stretch on Thursdays until January, then switch to co-ed volleyball. Men’s basketball could also become co-ed if there is interest. Senior gym walking on Mondays and Fridays is going well. Would like to raffle off a pedometer to those attending.Discussed possibility of using gym over winter vacation as it would be ideal if the weather is poor. Nancy will check to see if it’s possible as that is the time Art Wiggin and crew really get in and clean.

The fee for background checks on all persons wishing to oversee children’s programs has gone up to $7.50. There was discussion on how to handle the bills being sent out. The Rec. does not expect volunteers to have to pay for this themselves. Bills will need to be sent to Betty and volunteers reimbursed.

It was suggested that a small fee of perhaps $5.00 be charged for Rec. programs to help offset fees for background checks for volunteers, equipment, and janitorial fees. This brought about discussion on what would be involved in setting up a separate account for the Rec. and designating a treasurer. As the program continues to grow, there is more need for this to handle in/out cash flow and small expenses.

Learn to Ski program at Bradford is filled and ready to go.

Men’s Ski Club still needs men.

Dan will look into securing a block of tickets for a Monarchs game.

Mike Motherway reported on latest discussions and correspondences regarding the Town Park. Still waiting to hear from Lewis Family Trust in response to wording of agreement. The Rec. Com. is working on a unified statement that outlines their position on the construction and maintenance of the park as was voted on last March, should a warrant article be presented for the March 2005 vote that would change the original plan or intent of the gift. The Rec. will continue to take into consideration the wants and needs of all the citizens of Kensington in regards to this project.

Meeting adjourned. Next meeting January 12, 2005.

Respectfully submitted,

Mary Jane Solomon
