Kensington Recreation
Committee Minutes
August 11, 2004
Approved Sept. 8,
2004
Meeting began at 7:00 at the Town Hall
In attendance: Nancy Roffman, Kathy Cook, Dan Provost, Mary
Jane Solomon
Guests: Mike Motherway, Steve McDonough
Minutes of July 14, 2004 meeting approved
Mike Motherway attended meeting as Selectmen rep. Nancy
filled him in on history of Recreation Committee, past, present, and future
goals.
Issues of discussion
- Letter
from Selectmen stating any work costing $1,000 or above requires 3 bids.
- Form
sent to Rec. from Rockingham Planning Commission regarding Capital
Improvement Plans. Mike has attended meetings so gave some input. Nancy
will get contact info and be ready to work on form next meeting.
- Mike
brought up procedural issues and suggested Rec. follow staggering of
appointments as outlined in RSA for town boards. Although Rec. is a
committee not a board, all in attendance agreed this would be a favorable
arrangement allowing rotation of chairmanship and slots to enter and exit
rather than membership being for a lifetime.
- Still
desire to create bylaws. Above issue would have been included in that
- Discussion
of park progress continues. Mike will be meeting with attorney Phil Pettis
regarding wording of agreements and legality of moving forward on both 211
South Road and the town park. 211 S. Rd. will be addressed first as work
has begun and there are fewer issues to deal with. Rec. is asked to deal
directly with Selectmen for information regarding these issues. Rec. still
strongly supports the building of the park but is also aware of and
understands that should the park cost the town money to maintain, above
what is currently budgeted, over the next ten years it will have to go
back to the voters.
- One
Rec. member will be direct contact person to selectmen to keep
communication flowing. Lorraine was not present but will be asked to do
this.
- Rec.
members will be in attendance at BOS meeting Aug.16th and working session
Aug. 18th
- Lili
submitted ideas for future programs
- 3
nights of open gym, 1 each for men, women, and children; all will need to
be staffed
- yoga
with Lucy Kat
- Judo,
this will be expensive so interest form will be sent out
- Adult
craft programs, possible 1 every 2 or 3 months
- Walking
club and/or chair aerobics for seniors
- Ski
trips and/or snow tubing at McIntire
- Men’s
ski club
- Trips
to North Shore Theatre in the Round; look into cost of minibus
- Trips
to Monarchs games and Fisher Cats games
- Family
orienteering sessions; 1 in spring and 1 in fall
- Steve
McDonough stopped by to ask if KYAA soccer program will have fields to play on. At this point it looks
like there will be fields to at least start the season but if there is a
possible second location that could be secured, Rec. recommends that be
done as fall construction start is still a possibility. Steve mentioned E.
Kingston or perhaps returning to Sanborn as possibilities.
- Rec.
would like a KYAA member to join or at least attend meetings on a regular
basis to keep us informed of needs and concerns directly. Steve was asked
for ideas. Possible candidates will be contacted.
- Dan
reports the merry-go-round was removed from its position in the park
- meeting
adjourned, next meeting Sept.8, 2004
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Jane Solomon
