Approved 9/21/05
Meeting began at
In attendance: Nancy Roffman, Lili Spinosa, Dan Provost, Mary Jane Solomon
Guests: KYAA representatives – Steve McDonough, Mark Finerty, Julie Hall, Joya Clarke, Tim and Sue Cannon, Tim Casey, John Andreasse, Mary Larson, Jen Gray, Dave Podalsky
KYAA representatives invited to open lines of communication and discuss what’s working, what’s not working, and how KYAA and Rec. can better work together.
Brief history of KYAA. Began in late 80’s. Paul St. Jean was first president and
set it up as a NH non-profit organization at request of
Current officers; Steve McDonough – President; Peter Stackhouse – Treasurer; Donna Carter- Rec. Liason; Kathy Felch and Dave Podalsky – Softball; Tim and Sue Cannon – Soccer; John Sawyer – Diamond League
Discussion of Rec.’s operating budget. Rec. Committee tries to anticipate regular maintenance and equipment expenses and puts this into the budget. If it isn’t requested or needed, it disappears. Discussion of repairs to Sawyer Field. Was suggested a list of exactly what is desired be presented to the Rec. who in turn brings it to the Selectmen and can then add it to next year’s budget. It was clarified that Rec. is not allowed to raise funds. KYAA may raise monies for what they need. If this is something to be placed on town property, a proposal should be brought to the Rec. who will then be responsible for presenting it to the Selectmen for approval. Communication between these three groups is key.
KYAA’s needs:
Regular mowing schedule to be continued through soccer season.
Porta- potties to remain through soccer season.
Storage facility for equipment ( old
salt shed being looked into, also Joya Clarke offered space in her barn on
Insurance – could they be covered through the town policy?
How to get word out about programs – can KYAA have a space on the Rec. web-page?; possible notices posted at Kensington Grocery and on school sign
Volunteers – how to get more people involved. This is a growing problem for all organizations. Suggestion to tack on additional fee at program sign-ups for those who choose not to volunteer.
Lili brought up Rec. programs offered at KES. Middle school, high school, and men’s basketball went very well, as did gym walking and floor hockey. Co-ed volleyball has been suggested and may be offered. It was felt that with so much going on it was better to offer fewer programs that had a strong response than to offer more programs, some of which received a weak turn out. There is still need for more Rec. programs for seniors.
Next meeting will focus on Capital Improvements Plan which
is due in December.
It was decided by all in attendance it would be beneficial for Rec. and KYAA to hold their monthly meetings separately but at the same time and same place to facilitate communication and reduce the need for anyone to attend additional meetings. This will begin September 14th and will be posted on the school sign.
Meeting adjourned.
Next meeting September 14th at
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Jane Solomon
