Kensington Recreation Committee Minutes

January 19, 2005

Approved 2/16/05

Meeting began at 7:00 at the Town Hall

In attendance: Donna Carter, Lorraine Petzy, Nancy Roffman, Kathy Cook, Dan Provost, Mary Jane Solomon

Minutes of the 11/10/04 and 12/8/04 meetings approved

Discussion regarding Town Park. As construction has been put on hold per order of Lewis Family Trust, the Rec. Com. felt it no longer needed to write a formal position statement. There is still hope the project will be revisited to determine how to proceed. In the meantime, the Rec. Com. recognizes the urgent need for more playing fields. It was suggested members of KYAA be invited to our next meeting to see what they are thinking and how we can work together to find a solution. Donna will e-mail Steve McDonough regarding this.

Discussion on Hodges property. Conservation Committee had asked for a letter of support from the Rec. Com. as they are seeking grant money for improvements to the property. Donna questioned restrictions, if any, and how that follows the original agreement. Denise will be contacted to see if restrictions are outlined in the deed or are recorded in minutes of the meeting where Mr. Hodges gave the land to the town and the gift was accepted. The Conservation Committee oversees this property.

Lili Spinosa was not present but asked that we discuss the possibility of creating a sub-committee to help with planning and coordinating activities. Lili would remain a member of the Rec. Com. but would also work with this committee. With the growth of programs we felt it is necessary to recruit other volunteers to help with this.

Kensington trip to the Monarchs game was successful. Dan will look into securing another block of tickets. Vacation week would be good but with everyone on vacation at the same time this year it may be difficult. Notices will be distributed through school, Rec. programs, and Community News if timely.

No ski trip to Ragged Mountain will be planned this year do to low sign up in past.

Meeting adjourned.

Next meeting February 9, 2005

Respectfully submitted,

Mary Jane Solomon
