Approved on November 19, 2009

Meeting began at 6:30pm at the Library

In attendance: Kay Christie Cardoni, Cengiz Satir

Donna Carter joined us at 7:30pm

Minutes to the October 8th, 2009 meeting were approved.

The Youth Ski Lesson Program at the Bradford Ski Area – the forms have been posted on the Recreation Committee website and KES school e-news. And is listed in the Community News.

KES Activities – Lili Spinosa and Kay met to review the new programs:  Basketball for middle/high school students, Men’s Basketball, Dodge ball for middle/high school students, and Adult Co-ed Volleyball. The forms have been posted on the website, e-news and the Community News. Dawn Perry and Kay met with Hannah Eaves - a Special Education Teaching Assistant at KES to discuss the position of Gym Coordinator or Activities Coordinator to supervise the KES youth activities. That position would be paid be session or per hour. Fees collected through KES activities will be used to pay for this position. Dawn drafted a job description. Dawn will also keep track of the registrations via a spreadsheet and would be the primary contact with this position.

The ‘Candlelight Walk /Tree Lighting’ was discussed by Kay.  The specifics of this event: the route, the carols, and when/how the buildings are lit were discussed.  The Committee thought a 3 pm start at Sawyer Park would be best for ornament making, cocoa drinking, tree lighting, singing, and a tree dedication. Dawn has developed a new Carol book (using less paper and larger lettering) and a flyer. Cengiz and Kay will look at the tree lights and make sure they are in working order. The event will be posted on the website and e-news. It was listed in the Community News this past week.

The updated web page was discussed for the Recreation Committee for our events and activities. Paul Lovvik set up the Recreation Committee website – it looks great. Thank you, Paul! A meeting to review the site has been scheduled on Tuesday, November 10th at the Library.

Kay attended the BOS meeting and gave a brief update of the Recreation Committee events and activities.

Skateboard Park – Cengiz will arranged to have the equipment delivered and will coordinate with Mike Motherway and Mike DelSesto.

Ice skating rink - Bell and Flynn designed the rink – Cengiz stated the original design was to have the ice smooth to skate –which requires frequent misting. Donna looked into having a spigot installed on the well so that the ice rink could be sprayed/misted with water as needed. A lock on the spigot was also discussed. Cengiz discussed having the Park Trust contribute for the cost to install this spigot as the original plan called for an ice rink that was in proper working order.

A motion was made by Cengiz; To have a spigot installed-pending a reasonable quote not to exceed $600 and reviewed by the Recreation Committee and pending approval of our Board of Selectmen. The motion was seconded and was passed.

Cengiz is working on the plugs for the rink and he would like to purchase them.

A motion was made by Kay to reimburse Cengiz for the cost of the plugs for the ice rink – pending review of his receipts. The motion was seconded and was passed. A dry run will be scheduled to see if the plugs indeed will work. Cengiz will follow up on quotes for ice hockey nets (Fillbricks/Rinks).  Follow-up is needed on how to maintain a path through the snow for its use; specifically the cost to plow (parking/path/rink).

Also discussed was the use of the warming hut and a possible fire in the hut, or the use of a fire-pit type unit. Kay will contact the Fire Chief for this information.

Donna presented the receipt for the purchase and planting of a living tree for a former recreation member. The receipt was signed and approved by the Recreation Committee. Donna will check into getting a plaque and report at the next meeting, hopefully it can be installed before the dedication ceremony.

Donna discussed the Kensington Trails and showed us a map of those trails. The map was from the Rockingham Planning Commission – e:/towns/kensington/base-apr.

Linda Bennett had assisted with this project years ago.

Donna mentioned the 12/22/08 minutes and following up with Mike Spinosa on the boardwalks/bridges for the trails. Kay will send an email for an update.

The Committee reviewed planned activities for the 2010 year and worked up a draft budget. Kay stated she would put the information on an excel spreadsheet. We will review this budget at our next meeting.
