Kensington Recreation Committee Minutes
August 24, 2009
Approved on September 10, 2009
Meeting began at 6:30 pm at Sawyer Park
In attendance: Kay Christie Cardoni, Cengiz Satir, Donna Carter, Mike Motherway
Guest: Dawn Perry
Minutes to the June 10th, June 17th, June 25th, July 13th, and July 21st meetings were read and approved.
The first order of business was to make a motion (Cengiz Satir) to nominate Dawn Perry to the Kensington Recreation Committee and to present her appointment to the BOS for approval. The motion was seconded the Recreation Committee voted to pass the motion.
Donna spoke about Kingston Days and how the town of Kingston organized their event. She brought their program which might prove useful next year in planning the Kensington Town Festival. We will plan earlier this year for our festival next year on the second Saturday in July (7/10/10).
A new or updated web page was discussed for the Recreation Committee, something that is easier to read with a link to Sawyer Park and with an event and field schedule, which would include a recreation committee email address. We will look at other web sites and come up with specific suggestions for our next meeting. A town wide letter to the community on up coming events was also discussed.
Cengiz looked into the Skateboard Park – currently there is asphalt on the park area, which makes it difficult to anchor the skateboard equipment. There was discussion about replacing the asphalt with cement and asking for donations and manpower. A discussion of indoor vs. outdoor equipment indicated that indoor equipment is less expensive, but doesn’t last. Cengiz had a plan of the equipment but will review and gather more information. The committee would like to build the park correctly with the proper equipment and grounding.
The next topic was the ice skating rink and working on this project now so that it will be up and running this winter. We need to understand from the design group or the contractor; how to properly flood and maintain the rink for the winter. This would include having the firemen flood it and having volunteers shovel and maintain a path through the snow for its use. Cengiz will start the process of looking into the rink issues.
Other events discussed:
The Recreation Committee also decided to meet every other Thursday at the Library at 6:30pm starting on September 10th, 2009.
Meeting adjourned at 7:45pm.
Next meeting September 10, 2009
Respectfully submitted, Kay Christie Cardoni
