Kensington Recreation Committee Minutes
April 8, 2009
Approved on May 13th, 2009
Meeting began at 7:00 at the Town Hall
In attendance: Kathy Cook, Donna Carter, Mary Jane Solomon
Also Kay Cardoni and Cengiz Satir
Minutes to the March 11th meeting were approved with the insertion of a paragraph sent in by Mike Motherway regarding his presentation about the Rec. Revolving Fund.
Cengiz attended to learn more about the committee and its responsibilities. His interest lies in organizing various programs and knows of several people who are not able to commit to the committee full time but would be willing to possibly head up certain Rec. sponsored events. Cengiz is also affiliated with KYAA, which would be beneficial to the committee. He also feels the town website needs updating and is willing to look into getting that done for a minimal cost to the town, if any. Kay’s interest lies more in organizing and overseeing the committee’s roles and responsibilities as a whole, concentrating first on updating and finalizing the by-laws. Both Kay and Cengiz will be recommended to the selectmen for appointment to the committee.
Camp report. Town counsel recommended a few changes for the booklet of procedures, protocol and job descriptions for the summer camp program. Kathy has made those. They will be inserted into the books and given to selectmen for final approval and signatures. Kathy has been reappointed for another three year term with the understanding she will most likely resign once her involvement with camp for this year is over. She submitted an invoice for printing the camp brochures. Brochures have been sent through school and posted on the website. Counselors are still in the process of being hired but Felicia Motherway has been hired as Camp Coordinator; Shelly Ellis as Director; and Kelsey Lampman as Assistant Director. Kathy will contact Julie Noyes about doing First Aide Certification for Kelsey, and possibly training on AED for all camp staff. Kay will contact Kerry Mucher to set up staff training session before the first week of camp on July 13th.
Donna asked if Rec. members and camp staff could meet to finish organizing the storage shed prior to the park cleanup day of April 18th. Kathy said plans were being made to meet with Shelly and Kelsey during school vacation to do this as well as meet one another and to introduce Felicia.
Timberline Signs of Hampton can make metal plaques for the Eagle Scout recognition for $45. MJ will order those. The scouts will be notified when the plaques are in place. A brass plaque to be mounted on a stone would be $900 - $1000. It was unanimously agreed upon to engrave the stone at $2 per letter rather than purchase a plaque. Kathy will contact Dan Provost about setting the stone. Donna will then contact the engravers.
Meeting adjourned. Next meeting May 13th.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Jane Solomon
