Kensington Recreation Committee Minutes

November 12, 2008

Draft subject to change prior to approval

Meeting began a t 7:00 at the Town Hall

In attendance: John Andreasse, Kathy Cook, Donna Carter, Dave Macek, Mary Jane Solomon

Minutes to 10-08-08 meeting approved.

Discussion on Haunted Hayride. Communication again is key in having everyone in the know. Further discussion is needed to determine how it will be run next year. Thoughts were to have Rec. take it over completely, not charge a fee for the hayride, or make it clearly a fundraiser for a specific cause.

Communication in general needs to be amongst Rec. members only when Rec. issues or questions arise. After a resolution and/or consensus are agreed upon is the appropriate time to include other boards.

Kathy submitted NH Recreation and Park Association form. MJ will fill it out and submit payment.

Appointment of Field managers as requested by Sawyer/Kensington Trust discussed. Differing opinions as to job description. It was agreed the field managers should be KYAA related as they are the ones using the fields. Rec. is no longer responsible for park maintenance so any issues with the fields should be directed to the Trust.

Budget proposal for 2009. As per BOS, maintenance line items were removed from the Rec. Budget. Agreed upon by all; General Maintenance - $2,900; Rec. Equipment - $5,000; Special Events - $5,000; Park Development - $3,700.

Discussion on spending remaining money this year. Still the need for a vehicle of sorts for the park. The Trust will be asked again where that stands as they were looking at getting one donated or at a reduced cost. Estimates for trail work not in yet but it was agreed to spend up to $10,000 to complete the boardwalk and do stump grinding. Dave Buxton offered his services and chipper to clean up dead wood in area and provide chips for trail. Remaining money will go to engraving a stone of appreciation and for the tree lighting party.

Tree Lighting Party set for Sunday, Dec. 7th at 3:00. John will send out e-mail asking for volunteers to head up a Tree Lighting Committee. Thoughts are to have a small fire in the warming hut, materials to make edible tree ornaments for the birds, and music, either live or through the p.a. system. Trust will be notified to see if they wish to open the concession stand. Skating is very doubtful at this time.

Kathy will place ad for camp counselors in next Comm. News issue.

Dave asked if BOS ever voted to accept waiver of park use fees to town affiliated groups. The old usage form is still on the website. MJ will talk to Denise regarding this.

Bylaws reviewed and will be discussed and determined next meeting.

Meeting adjourned. Next meeting December 10, 2008.

Respectfully submitted,

Mary Jane Solomon
