Kensington Recreation Committee Minutes
May 14, 2008
Amended and approved June 11, 2008
Meeting began a t 7:00 at the Town Hall
In attendance: Dave Macek, Donna Carter, Nancy Roffman, Mary Jane Solomon
Minutes of the April 9, 2008 meeting approved.
Further discussion regarding children with allergies attending camp. State HB0092 states that a child may attend a recreation camp provided a number of conditions are met, one being they must be able to self administer an epi-pen and have a written document from parent/guardian and doctor stating the child is able to do so. We need to wait to hear from town council to determine what we will do.
Discussion on defining the role of the Recreation Committee as was requested by the Selectmen. It was determined the committee be responsible for overseeing town recreation programs and facilities and to make recommendations to the Board of Selectmen regarding scheduling, usage policies, and fees for said programs and facilities. Current programs include Camp, Learn to Ski, Evening programs at K.E.S., Hayride, and special events. Maintenance of the facilities should continue to be reviewed and monitored by Rec. so should the sole responsibility eventually fall on the town; the committee will be prepared to take over and budget accordingly. All future maintenance bids and contracts must be reviewed and approved by the Recreation Committee. A request will be made to supply the Rec. with a detailed log of all maintenance work done this year as a base for future budgeting.
The first payment for maintenance by Down to Earth was paid by Rec. fulfilling our share of $8,000.
Donna asked that another portolet be placed at the fields until the restrooms are fully operational as the current portolet is provided by and for the construction workers. This was approved.
Question as to who pays the electric bills. Rec. has only a small amount budgeted for this. The Selectmen will be asked this at the next meeting.
Park celebration is scheduled for July 12th. The Rec. is willing to contribute as needed. At this time the needs are not known.
Dave reported KYAA may be disbanding due to lack of volunteers. Should this happen, all KYAA programs and assets will go to the Rec.
Meeting adjourned. Next meeting June 11, 2008.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Jane Solomon
