Recreation Committee Minutes

December 12, 2007

Approved February 13, 2008

Meeting began at 7:00 at the Town Hall

In attendance: Kathy Cook, Dave Macek, Mary Jane Solomon

Minutes of the October 10th and November 14th meetings were approved.

Jodi Southwick was in attendance. She had expressed an interest in learning more about the Rec. Committee as well as the role of various activity directors to see how she might get involved.

Doug Merrill attended to discuss possibilities of an Eagle Scout Project he wishes to begin working on. He also mentioned the William T. Hornaday Award which requires completion of three environmentally based projects. Trail work such as building bridges, placing a subsurface under the trails themselves, additional clearing of brush throughout the wooded area, and construction of natural play areas were all touched on. Doug will meet with Dave Macek on Saturday, the 15th to walk the trail area determine what might be a fitting project.

Mary Jane will get final expense receipts in to Denise and check to see if  Julie Noyes has submitted an invoice for purchasing the defibrillators. Also check to see how we can obtain a copy of the invoice for the actual tree clearing along the trails to confirm it was what we had budgeted for.

Selectmen will be asked about park progress, especially regarding the play area as nothing still has moved forward on that and comments have been made implying more estimates are needed.

Dave reported KYAA was told the ball fields will be ready and available for Opening Day.

Kathy reported on progress of developing the new expanded camp program. She has spoken with a young woman certified to teach who is currently working as a classroom aide and coaching JV volleyball. She is very interested in directing a five week camp program with extended hours. Kathy and MJ will meet with her to discuss it further. A decision needs to be made so a brochure may be distributed through school the week following February vacation. If she has not had CPR and First Aide training, that will be required and Rec. will reimburse her. It was suggested KYAA coaches also be trained. MJ will contact Julie Noyes to see if she would be willing to do this.

Meeting adjourned. Next meeting January 9th, 2008.

Respectfully submitted,

Mary Jane Solomon
