Kensington Recreation Committee Minutes
April 11, 2007
Draft subject to change prior to approval
Meeting began at 7:30 at the Town Hall
In attendance: Kathy Cook, John Andreasse, Dave Macek, Mary Jane Solomon
Minutes to the December 13, 2006 and March 14, 2007 meetings were approved.
Barbara Switzer gave ok for additional basketball hoops at KES, but need to go to school board for final approval.
Kathy brought proto type of brochure for summer camp. Need to verify use of Pinnacle Center and available dates before it can go to the printer. Discussed raising the fee to allow adequate pay for counselors. Decided not to go higher than $60 it keep it affordable. Needs for camp if held a Pinnacle Center are storage (possibility of shed being moved there during camp), porta-potty, tent (donated by Mike DelSesto) tables (current ones can be transported to Pinnacle by Dave Macek)
Discussion on clean up of fields to get ready for May 5th opening day. Money from Exeter junior Baseball League can be put towards this. Dave also wishes to schedule a volunteer day when the fields dry out. As time is running out, a landscaper may need to be hired. Dave continues to get bids for field mowing. It was asked if the shed at Sawyer Field could be altered to be used as a concession stand. John will ask the selectmen about this.
Chris Hseih will not be available for a plaque presentation on Opening Day. Rec. is still working on a date for the presentation before the end of the season to allow due recognition.
A question was raised as to whether Rec. would sponsor a recreational youth baseball team. It was decided a formal request with more detailed info was needed before making an informed decision.
The offer of a donated ping pong table was presented. It was decided the table would require too much storage space for the few opportunities there would be to use it.
Brief discussion of playground equipment for new park. Looking at various catalogues, the Big Toys company was favored for it’s philosophy in using wood from managed forests and recycled plastics and steel. It offers a wide range of safe equipment including many unique pieces. A rough estimate of $60,000 was determined to ship and install elements desired. Equipment for natural play spaces along the walking trails will consist mainly of available materials, though cost of labor for construction will need to be determined.
Meeting adjourned. Next meeting May 9.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Jane Solomon
