Kensington Recreation Committee Minutes

Meeting began at 7:00 in the KES Library

In attendance: Nancy Roffman, Kathy Cook, John Andreasse, Lili Spinosa, Donna Carter, Mary Jane Solomon

Guests: Dave Macek, John Clark, Peter Merrill, Doug Merrill, Stefanie Johnstone

No February meeting was held due to the Town Deliberative Session. Rec. members were unavailable to meet on an alternate night.

Regular March meeting time and place was changed to accommodate guest speaker, Ron King. Ron is from The Natural Playground Company in Concord, NH. He walked the area of the Town Park last fall to get a sense of natural features already in existence and how his natural play areas and walking trails could fit. Ron found the park to be peaceful and already processing a wide variety of desirable natural features. His recommendation for beginning a park improvement plan was to hold a presentation for community members to get information and start visioning. That was the purpose of this meeting. Ron’s presentation consisted of getting input from those in attendance as to what activities they liked to do outside, compared these answers to those given by children, compared natural play structures to manufactured ones, and slides of play areas his company has constructed. Those in attendance reacted favorably to Ron’s ideas and concepts. Ron felt community members should work together to design a plan. It was suggested he do a workshop during one of the weeks of summer camp for kids and their parents.

Working meeting scheduled for March 28, 2006 to begin park visioning and planning.
