Kensington Conservation Commission

Minutes of May 11, 2010

Members in attendance: Heather Douglas, Sydnee Goddard, Joan Skewes, Rob Garneau

1.       Call to order 7:35.

2.       Minutes approved with change to item number five, so it now reads “Group decided to ask Wyatt Merrill to move birdhouses from their present location in the middle of the Great Brook Conservation Area to the tree line to facilitate haying.”

3.       Regarding the potential purchase of back 15 acres of John Sargent’s land, the group decided that the letter of intent or any future purchase and sale agreement should include a statement that John’s portion of the appraisal fee and his fee for the survey will be paid at closing.  In addition, material and debris would need to be removed from the property in question before the commission would sign a purchase and sale agreement.  Sydnee will share these decisions with Dave Viale of Southeast Land Trust and ask him to seek a surveyor who would agree to payment at closing.

4.       Paul Kimball has asked for permission to cut trees on his property and is looking for permission from the selectmen and the conservation commission to do so.  However, the commission and selectmen do not have the right to make this decision as the Rocking County Conservation District (RCCD) is the easement holder and NRCS oversees the easement and uses of the property.  Sydnee has contacted the forester who completed the forest management plan for the property and he said that the document stipulates no cutting for 10 years.  He is not in favor of cutting on the property at this time.  Sydnee will go to the next selectman’s meeting with Paul to present this information.

5.       Wyatt Merrill will take down the bluebird houses by July in time for haying.

6.       Adjourned 8:10 p.m.
