Kensington Conservation Commission

Minutes of August 12, 2008

Members in attendance: Rob Garneau, Joan Skewes, Sydnee Goddard, Heather Douglas

1. Call to order 7:40.
2. Minutes approved.
3. Group met with Mike DelSesto, a representative for Mr. Lewis, regarding connecting the trails at the town park to the other trails maintained by KCC, especially those on the Hodges Conservation Land.  Group decided to meet with Mr. DelSesto on Monday, Aug. 18 at 6:30 p.m. to walk the land and determine if and how a connecting trail could be established.  Rob will look into the regulations for creating a municipal trail system.  Group will also discuss other trails that might be connected to the town park in the future.
4. Group discussed mosquito control and determined more information is needed before giving input to the town.
5. Sydnee will email the town selectmen about the possibility of creating a warrant article for hiring a code enforcement officer, in response to a myriad of recent wetlands/environmental code violations in the new housing developments.
6. Sydnee told group about a possible wetlands violation on North Road.  It appears a pond was dredged, and group wondered if a dredging permit was obtained.  Rob will go by the property and take a more in-depth look before group pursues any action.
7. Rob to write a letter to Mr. Lewis thanking him for the monetary donation to help place the Cole property in conservation.
8. Group discussed priorities for the 2008-2009 year and agreed to focus on trail improvement and development.
