Kensington Conservation Commission

Minutes of meeting February 14, 2006

Members in attendance:  John and Joan Skewes, Harry Bodwell, Sydnee Goddard

1. Call to order 7:36 pm

2. Minutes approved

3. Reviewed mail.  Discussed letter from DES to Maria Pereira dated Jan 18, 2006.  The letter outlines the "Restoration Plan".

4.  Joan shared that she had contacted Theresa Walker to get advice about invasive Phragmites.  She is still waiting for a reply.

5.  Discussed the complete appraisal on the Cole property.  Appraiser, Peter Nault had contacted Joan to determine whether the planning board has reduced the maximum size of cul-de-sacs.  If so, this would decrease the appraised value, because fewer lots could be drawn.

6. Sydnee shared letter from Rockingham County Conservation District regarding Farm and Ranchland Protection Program (FRPP).    RCCD expects FRPP request for proposals to come any day.   Sydnee will contact Mary Currier and Coles and invite them to next meeting.

7.  Discussed status of Kimball easement work.  Joan will contact Paul to see what he's heard from the appraiser and pass the information onto Sydnee.

8. Discussed funding options for Kimball and Rider easements.  Considered a bond for March 2007 ballot to fund both, since both border the existing Great Brook Conservation area.  Discussed seeking match funds from grants and private donors.

9. Sydnee gathered bullets points for an editorial supporting SAU 16 warrant article #8 that asks voters to direct Co-op School Board to give 26 acres to Kensington for Conservation.

10.  Joan will call to order metal signs for Hodges Conservation Area.

11.  Now that snow is melted, Joan will call to get a second appraisal for Hodges gravel parking area.

12. Adjourn 9:02pm
