Kensington Conservation Commission

Minutes of January 10, 2006

 

Members in attendance: Steve Erickson, Harry Bodwell, Rob Garneau, Sydnee Goddard, John and Joan Skewes.

 

1. Call to order 7:40

2. Minutes approved

3. Sydnee shared that today she filed the warrant article for SAU 16 March.  This citizen petition warrant article directs the school board to transfer ownership of  26.36  acres to Kensington for conservation.  Public budget meeting with school district board will be at 7 pm at CMS on Thursday 12th.   John and Sydnee will be there to speak for our warrant article.

4. Discussed no hunting signs for Charles Hodges Conservation Area.  Estimated the property boarder is about 3 miles, so if assume 1 sign per 300 feet, 100 signs would be sufficient.  Agreed to get metal signs.  Sign will say "No Hunting, Town of Kensington, Kensington Conservation Commission, Phone # (603) 772-5423,  95 Amersbury Road.

5. Joan will check on York Property and determine if it also needs No Hunting signs.

6. Joan reported that John signed an appraisal agreement to pay $2,500 for Cole appraisal.

7. Joan reported that Paul Kimball has contacted McManus and Nault for an appraisal. 

8. Sydnee nominated to be new chairperson for KCC.  Seconded and unanimously approved.

9.  Joan shared that Exeter River Local Advisory Committee is asking for donation to support their work.  Joan made motion to give $150 annual dues to ERLAC.  Motion seconded and unanimously approved.

10.  Rob shared that a concerned citizen had asked if we could do anything about the Phragmites taking hold in Great Meadow along Route 150.  Sydnee indicated that she is unaware of any success in getting rid of it, short of chemical removal.  Joan will contact ERLAC for advice.

11. Rob asked if anyone has looked at the bill being proposed to reclassify wetlands such that the state would define what is noncontributor vs. contributor wetland.   This bill could have serious implication.  He suggests we call our local representatives about the bill.  Steve asked if federal government has regulation for what is a wetland. 

12. John needs to contact Mary Currier and get her in touch with Chris and Jill Rider.

13. Discussed putting a bond for conservation on March 2007 ballot with specific projects and a price. 

14. John will get another appraisal for parking lot.
